The Helping, Educating and Lifeline Project (H.E.L.P)

Beau - Mental Health

back

My name is Beau I came to Pallion Action Group with a friend after hearing about the dance project. I come from a family of 8 brothers and sisters and some are half related as my mam and dad divorced when I was a year old, I have serious mental health problems and suffer from psychosis. I am not really doing well at school and not always making appointments or getting the treatment I need.

I want to be a performer, but the dance school I was going to before PAG costs too much and my family couldn’t pay for it. Performing helps me escape from my world and just be myself. In March 2011 the group visited London Pineapple dance studios to take part in some classes; this was a huge boost for me as one of the teachers credited me for my talents in front of everyone in the studio.

I feel like I have finally found a place with the other young people and know I have friends; I have opened up about my condition to my team mates, which I never thought I would have the confidence to do it. I am able to create my own choreography put my own stamp on my work.

Because I have more support now I feel like I can do more good stuff and work with my friends. I feel better about myself now and want to achieve more.

The dance project at Pallion Action Group happened for me at the right time; I have made great friends and got loads of support.
